SALUTE OUR SOLDIERS
| Greetings! My name is Steven “Doc” Humphreys and my wife’s name is Kathy. We have been asked to take over the soldier care package program from Margo Hughey. You may have heard of Margo, who for many years has done a great deal of volunteer work in the Columbus and surrounding area. Some of her work has even been recognized by our Governor so she has some extremely large shoes to fill. Having been in the military myself (USMC 1974-1980), I know how lonely it can be away from friends and family, and how important cards, letters, and other items are when you are serving. Likening what Margo has done to a strong and enduring tree trunk, we plan on adding limbs and branches where we can do more. One of the first additions we have made is the Kid’s Salute. Using military style coloring pages, we have added lines to the bottom so the child can color the soldier a picture and then write some words of encouragement. Not only will this touch the soldiers’ hearts, it will also help to remind them of one of the main reasons they are there. Another branch of the tree that we plan on having is the Soldier’s Shout Out. Using a professional recording set-up, we plan on setting up and recording words of encouragement that will be uploaded to the internet for our soldiers to view. We plan on using FaceBook and other social networks to let people know when and where we will be recording. Again, we feel it very important that our soldiers have the chance to know we care and believe in what they are doing. Numerous soldiers have ask for mail in the form or cards and letters. We will give you an address below that you can mail letters and cards to for us to send in our Salute Boxes. You may also mail or drop off items such as magazines (Car & Driver, Popular Mechanics, Popular Science, Motor Magazine, etc.). They have also ask for items such as deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes, sun screen, eye glass cleaners, etc..
